Hello,
I am converting a Nissan Grand Livina L10 (HR15DE, 4-cylinder, manual) to EMU Black with a custom harness, and I need help selecting the correct primary trigger type for the OEM crankshaft trigger wheel.
ENGINE AND SENSORS
- Engine: Nissan HR15DE, 4 cylinders, sequential injection planned
- Crank sensor: OEM CKP, Hall effect (permanent magnet + Hall IC), reading a signal plate on the rear of the crankshaft
- Cam sensor: OEM CMP (PHASE), Hall effect, retained
- ECU: EMU Black, software version: 3.069
CRANK WHEEL PATTERN
This is not a plain missing-tooth wheel. Derived and cross-checked from two independent sources:
36 tooth positions at 10 degree pitch
32 physical teeth: 30 single teeth plus 2 merged blocks
Each merged block is 3 teeth joined into one long tooth spanning 3 tooth positions, so each block removes 2 rising edges
The two merged blocks are exactly 180 degrees apart
HOW I ARRIVED AT THAT
MaxxECU documents the same trigger for the HR16DE (Tiida C11), which uses the identical wheel:
From their crank trigger pattern plot: normal interval is about 1150 us, the long interval is about 3450 us, so the ratio is exactly 3.0, and the long interval recurs every 16 trigger events. Sixteen edges between gaps, with each gap occupying 3 tooth positions, gives 18 positions between gaps, therefore 36 positions per crank revolution with two gaps.
The physical signal plate (91 mm inner diameter, Nissan Livina L10) independently counts 30 single teeth plus 2 merged blocks of 3 positions each, which also gives 36.
MY QUESTIONS
Which primary trigger type should I select? “Toothed wheel with 2 missing teeth” with Num teeth = 36 looks wrong to me, because the decoder should find a second identical sync point at tooth 18. Setting Num teeth = 18 would make the ECU read double RPM and put the ignition map on a 180 degree cycle.
If this wheel can be decoded with the help of the cam signal, can the CAM #1 pattern options (Shorter than factor, Longer than factor, Factors sequence) be used to identify which of the two crank gaps is which within the 720 degree cycle? The OEM cam sensor produces pulses of clearly different widths.
Attached: crank trigger pattern plot and trigger oscilloscope capture (both from the MaxxECU documentation page linked above), plus photographs of the physical OEM signal plate.
i already try to crank my engine and scope via ecumaster v3 software, but no signal detect, the gather data is finish and complete, already check don’t skip edge also but same. i still investigate the supply 5 volt to the CKP Sensor and also test to signal wire while crank.
if there is no signal on scope, there must be no signal at the ECU pin, or trigger input is not set up properly (eg no pullup selected for hall sensor)
Finally i got the signal on scope, herewith i attatch the file. can you also suggest the first trigger tooth and trigger angle from the scope ? there are also signal for ignition
okay i will test tomorrow, by the way as i know the cam is indicate the sequential of the cylinder , 1 3 4 2 , on HR15DE the firing order is 1 3 4 2, if we see the pict of scope #cam one line, 3 lines, 4 lines and 2 lines. my current configuration are below
and for #cam i will try it tomorrow (hopefully 9 hours later) with longer than factor , falling and factor longer 3x, will record scope and send it here.
i am not test yet with configuration cam longer than factor, falling and factor longer 3x ( today will test ). oh ya for trigger crank , whether is decode well ? because the pattern is not stable ya. or could you please make trigger for this engine ?
You need to setup firing order and coils first. Then with the timing lamp (lock the angle to 0deg in trigger settings) set the primary tooth and trigger angle. If you have the spark in perfect place and the engine doesnt start, invert the phase in firing order
