Hi everyone,

I’m currently setting up a **Paddle Shift** strategy on an **Ecumaster EMU PRO** using a **Closed-Loop** configuration with a Barrel Position Sensor.

I need to clarify the exact logic the ecu uses to trigger the transitions between stages. Specifically:

1. **Pre-load:** Does it end strictly after the “Pre-load time” or is it affected by the barrel movement?

2. **Pre-shift:** Since I’m in Closed-Loop, does this phase end the moment the sensor detects the barrel has left the current gear position?

3. **Shift:** Does this transition to “Post-shift” occur exactly when the target gear voltage is reached, or is there a specific tolerance window?

4. **Post-shift:** What is the best practice to manage the handover to Torque Recovery?

Could anyone please share some **screenshots** of your **Gearbox Setup** or, even better, a **log** showing the **Gear Shift State** channel alongside **Barrel Position** and **Torque Reduction**? Seeing the transitions visually would be a huge help.

Thanks in advance for the support!

Correct. It ends exactly after the _Pre-load Duration time_. This is open-loop stage.

Correct. **Pre-shift** to **Shift** transition is done in the moment when _Sensors Gear Position Sensor Voltage_ value left voltage range: [InV - LowT; InV + UpT] or timeout has passed.

- InV = _In-gear voltage_ for old gear
- LowT = _In-gear lower tolerance_ for old gear
- UpT = _In-gear upper tolerance_ for old gear

**Shift** to **Post-shift** transition is done when _Sensors Gear Position Sensor Voltage_ value goes into voltage range: [InV - (LowT \* Tol); InV + (UpT \* Tol)] or timeout has passed.

- InV = _In-gear voltage_ for old gear
- LowT = _In-gear lower tolerance_ for old gear
- UpT = _In-gear upper tolerance_ for old gear
- Tol = _Sensors Gear Position sensor Tolerance engage factor_

I assume you’re asking aboout up-shift.

From my experience in post-shift giving **zero** torque reduction with _torque recovery ramp_ equal around ~8000 [%/s] and with actuator kept active is safe for the gearbox.

I found very old log (from EMU PRO version 98.0, without _Tolerance engage factor_ and _Down-shift post-shift cylinders cut_ features) from BMW S65 with Tractive gearbox and MME (non-PWM) actuators.

[11\_20230629\_1619\_28.emuprolog](https://community.ecumaster.com/uploads/short-url/cJb8rkRnzGvEO8oxjDMMql9PqG1.emuprolog) (7.4 MB)
[11\_bmws65.emupro](https://community.ecumaster.com/uploads/short-url/oEjndkSzCGW7Bva03js11G5NaSv.emupro) (27.1 KB)

It’s old but should give you overview of the strategy bahavior.
When analysing the log please pay attention to the _ **Gearbox Gear shift State** _ channel. It gives good idea of the current state of the strategy
