Hi all

I have just purchased a VW golf r32 bub PNP for my conversion. Installed into a 2012 VW caddy running all of the golf wiring . I have used the base map off website but can’t seem to get it to start. Would anyone be able to have a look at the logs for me total newbie to standalones

Thanks David

What oil sensor are you using?

All standard . Just noticed it hasn’t shown any oil pressure though

They don’t have oil pressure sensor standard

Ah just looked at schematics and you’re right it’s just a single pin switch that egnites a warning light . will the ecu require a 3 pin pressure sensor?

Yeah 3 pin pressure or use a 4 pin temp / pressure combo sensor

[VW CADDY LOG.emub](https://community.ecumaster.com/uploads/short-url/vRbDvv6hoDcQ0T3g5jNntSDbv9n.emub) (147.0 KB)

I have ordered a 3 pin gauge and sensor should be here tomorrow . if anyone has time to look at log and see whats going on would be great . first time ever working with a proper ecu so a steep learning curve of what it all means

This is a calibration file;

to get a log have you computer connected to the ecu (green box bottom left shows 'connected) and it’s logging to PC. when you’re ready to save a log on the graph log window top left there’s a little floppy disc icon save button.

read and follow the first start steps in the doc, it’ll will probably answer a lot of your questions

This is what I did there’s just very little detail on it . Been shown that the it’s not getting a cam signal ( all sensors are new ) is there any way to see what voltages are being received by the emu

You did a scope log and are not seeing cam signal?

There is a log channel for ‘cam signal present’ but not something more accurate then that (sine wave oscilloscope type view it doesnt have)

Assuming the car ran before you swapped in the PNP ecu?

I haven’t had the engine personally running before 🫣

But I have just found the section you mentioned and looks like the cams are being read but only periodically

you will need to do a scope to be sure your triggers are working properly

 ![image](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/flex013/uploads/ecumaster/original/2X/3/33665873bbd35d9ad8a801c81fcb30833f1197da.png)
press and hold the download button when cranking and after a few a few cranks let go of the button and you will see some lines in the scope graph.

 ![image](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/flex013/uploads/ecumaster/original/2X/2/28d3fb5a0c5b644b03771ca5e724ab0569f0c487.png)

make sure enable scope is ticked. after you see the lines you can save the scope graph and share here or maybe screenshot and share

Very important detail I’ll add:

Click the blue check mark, not hold. must be done when the engine is turning, if you click or hold it as the engine stops spinning you won’t get a log.

I’ve done a scope on the triggers and not getting anything back from cam 2 (exhaust cam) popped sensor off and spotted that the variator is actually not a mk5 solid one but actually a Mk4 one which is slightly different hopefully can get a hold of a Mk5 one unless I can select a different option for trigger on the drop down menu

Black can support VR and Hall effect, so depending on which one it is should be fine so long as the wiring is correct.

Yeah they are both hall sensor however the ends of the cam variator are different not sure if that would be a issue for the sensor / ECU to read as is the scope I posted there is no signal coming back from cam2 (exhaust)

Is the air gap the same? like sensor mounting depth

if the trigger wheel (or variator) is the correct distance and wired right then the ecu should still see events on the trigger scope. Hall sensors are pretty forgiving on air gap compared to VR
