EMU Black on VW Wastespark Coil

Hi All,

I’d like to run a common BOSCH F000SZ0210 coil with my EMU Black. This 4 cylinder waste spark coil is used on many Golf IV and alike engines by Seat, Audi, etc.

Has someone here used this coil successfully with the EMU Black.

There’s a strong rumor it needs a pullup or pulldown to be used. Unfortunately I did not find specifics on that. Ecumaster claims it should run ok on the Black, however I’d like to confirm by users that have actually run it.

I hope someone here can share his experience.

Thanks allot

it will run fine on black, select coil with internal igniter

Thanks for the reply. Are you actually running it without a pullup?

The background of my question is, that the EMU Black will provide 5V Signals from what I understand?

But I think this coil requires 12V signaling? (not charging power) - not sure myself, but would like to understand what I am doing

Or does the EMU Black switch the two signal channels to ground, like in a classic coil set up with points???

Please help me to understand these basics.

Thank you

it will work fine, dont overthink

This is the most classic coils used in aftermarket ECUs back in the Day. KMS used to sell them overpriced for their ECUs with their own badge.
Standard VAG ECUs from this era (e.g., Bosch Motronic) strictly output a 5V signal for ignition triggering. Using a 12V trigger is considered "out of spec. Some users in have reported that 12v “works,” noted that a 5V signal produces a noticeably stronger spark and that 12V can lead to premature failure due to electrical stress of the amplifier stage.

Dwell Time 2.5ms – 3.0ms, higher can burn the primary windings prematurely.

ngt, thanks allot for the detailed answer and explanation! This helps me and I will run it as is.

Cheers
