Video integration with AiM SmartyCam

My Radical SR8 has an ECUMaster PMU, a MoTeC M150 ECU, and an AiM MXS 1.2 display, plus an AiM Smartycam 2.2 HD camera.

I’m not a fan of AiM’s RS3 software and am wondering if DataMaster can be used to integrate all my chassis data with the Smartycam. Do I need an ECUMaster ADU to do that? Or can I record the data in the ECUMaster PMU and use that for chassis/circuit analysis?

Many thanks!

Data Master supports logs from the PMU, allowing you to work with them in much the same way as ADU logs. However, there are a few key considerations:

  • PMU doesn’t have native support for GPS channels. It may require a complex setup to have the GPS based visualizations in Data Master (GPS/Track Map, Track Overlay etc.)

  • Data Master automatic video synchronization works only with GoPro cameras. You will have to synch the data and the video manually.

Thanks for the reply. All the GPS data goes through the PMU (from the AiM GPS09 to the AiM MXS to the PMU to the M150). So that seems possible.

I think the problem remains with the AiM camera: it runs fast. For example, a 2:08 lap will take about 1:57 during playback. Manually syncing the video won’t work. Sigh.

If your actual lap time is different from the one in the video, you may have problems with decoding/encoding the video.

To be precise, it’s a framerate issue. The video must be encoded at the exact same frame rate as it was recorded. If you record at 24 fps and encode a 30 fps video, you will have a time distortion like in your example.

I wish it were that simple. The frame rate is probably at the root of this issue, but it occurs on at least 3 different computers. Playback speeds need to be varied from 91% to 97% depending on ??. I suspect it’s an AiM strategy to encourage its customers to use RS3 software (which does stay in perfect sync, even though the playback speed is off). As I mentioned, I was hoping that Data Master had some tools to help.
