I have a problem with connecting to PC. I have a EMU classic in a BMW m50 rally car that i recently bought, and I am trying to connect the PC to the EMU unit to resolve some cooling water temperature problems, but nothing happens when I try to connect with USB C cable. I have the cable connected, the software running and I have downloaded the USB drivers on the web page. I turn the main switch and the ignition on, I have even tried to crank the engine but no response in the PC software. I guess that the EMU is at least 10 years old. The computer has Windows 11 pro, x64, intel i7. Can anyone help me with this issue? Do I need another software? Do I need to manually choose some driver?
I am sorry… Did you say “USB C”???
Please post a picture of your ECU and connection. I think you have some words or connectors mixed up… A 10 year old EMU definitely does not have a USB C connector on it…
Please use a USB A to USB A cable and let me know the result.
Ok, I will try that first.
I tried with USB A and still not working. No reaction in the PC software when I turn ignition on.
Any other ideas on what to try?
EMU has power and ground?
does your laptop recognize there is a device plugged into it? could be a usb driver issue
The car starts and runs, and drives so I suppose that the EMU has power. But the laptop does not seem to recognize that there is a device plugged inti it, not that I can see anyway. It is at least not recogniced as a USB port. I have downloaded the USB driver from the ECU Master web page, so I would assume that I have the last version. What can I do with the USB driver then to make sure it is working corrctly?
Ecumaster is pretty good about backwards compatibility, but perhaps its too old for the latest driver or something.
Does your laptop see the device when plugged in via “Device Manager”?
Is the USB cable known good and used for data transfer? can’t say id expect an A to A cable to be charge only but worth the ask
No nothing in “Device Manager” either. No reaction at all.
I have tried with different cables, both USB A to USB C and different ports on the PC.
this is not good, even if it doesn’t come up as “EMU” or something similar in name, it should recognize that a device was plugged in via usb.
I’d check for corrosion on the usb connector at the ecu, or damage internally since you’ve ruled out the laptop and cable.
