EGT/USB to CAN and M150

Hi all,
First post and first attempt at CANBUS, please go easy :slightly_smiling_face:
My setup will be Motec M150, a C1212 dash, EGT to CAN & a RRR enclosed v3 Switchboard.
Initially ive just got the EGT to CAN being read through the CAN to USB to my laptop, seems ok.
Then I added the v3 Switchboard (lowered the message ID of the EGT to 610h & 611h so as not to clash and I’m able to read all values on my laptop with light client.
I’m struggling with the light client software though as I was expecting to be able to create a *.dbc file naming the I/O from the v3 board and the EGT’s.
Theres the option to save as .dbc but how do i name/configure the I/O?
All the light client manuals I’ve found only cover sections 1 to 4 of the software layout, they highlight 5 to 8 but there’s no instructions, hopefully im just missing something.
Or do i leave them unassigned from the v3 board and instruct the M150 as to what each I/O is?

Any help greatly relieved, thanks
Ian

Hi,
The names in the DBC files are generated automatically based on the channels’ names in the Light Client. You cannot assign your names in the Light Client.

However, you can edit the generated DBC file and change the names. We use Kvaser software called Database Editor 3 to work with DBC files.

I don’t know how a custom CAN bus works in Motec, but I assume you import DBC and have your CAN inputs that you can assign to specific switch/sensor functions in the ECU. In that case, it would be even better to have generic names of CAN inputs if you want to change assignments in the future.

I’ll take a look at the Kvaser software, thank you for the assistance mkuklis
