I’m just getting a PMU16 AS up and running, and I’m having a frustrating time connecting to it. I’ve used PCAN LAN to talk with ECUMaster PMUs in the past, but it isn’t working this time. The PC software recognizes the PCAN LAN, but then says it doesn’t recognize the PMU. LiteClient works just fine, as does PCAN View. I just upgraded to the latest firmware – is it possible there’s a CAN sequence the PC software is looking for that got changed?
Or is there any other experiments I can try to try and figure this out?
thanks!
Hi,
It might be a bug introduced in the new version of the software.
Are you using the newest test version of the software?
If yes, try going back to the official version (101.2.1) from the main website.
Check if it works with the older software.
Thanks. I’m using 101.2.1 from the main website. I’ll see if I can go back farther.
I tried firmware 92 and PMU software 92. I’m afraid I didn’t really learn anything. I can’t get LiteClient to connect either. But PCAN View works fine: Here’s some data from its CAN View window.
Here’s what the PMU configuration software looks like. Note the PCAN LAN in the lower left:
Uh, never mind. It’s working now. I did nothing to fix it. Perhaps it just connects more slowly, I don’t know.
Do you have proper termination of the bus?
You need two 120-ohm resistors between the low and high signals.
Yes, I have proper termination. I use 22g Tefzel twisted wire, Deutsch DTM connectors and their 120 ohm terminators. Measured resistance at anywhere on the bus is a perfect 60 ohms.
Deutsch 2P DTM 120 Ohm Terminating Resistor
I can say at this point that the PC configuration software will always connect via the PCAN LAN if I let it sit in its initial “detecting PMU devices” state. However, this takes about 15 minutes. There are no CAN errors being recorded by it or by PCAN View while this goes on. I have PCAN trace data available that covers this if there is someone who can look at it.
Once connected, the connection is reliable, and I can do configuration work without worry of the connection dropping.
Also: LiteClient connects instantly and detects the PMU data (it doesn’t seem to know about PMUs, so it just displays the 66xh data the PMU is broadcasting).
I am not sure if we have the PCAN LAN on site.
We will check, place an order if needed, and investigate further.
Thanks for the feedback.
