VSS Input 12V tolerant?

Hello Guys,

Just a quick question…

The VSS Sensor from my 02A Volkswagen gear needs 12V supply. Can i connect the Signal (approx. 9V amplitude) directly to VSS in? And should i use Sensor Ground or better Engine/ECU Ground in this case?

Hope you have some suggestions.

You can use 2 10k ohm ressistor to make a voltage divider 1/2. so ecu input voltage half of sensors output voltage

Ok, i hoped that the input is 12V tolerant as it only counts the frequency and not measuring voltage

i would think this is hall type sensor switching to ground and hig z so voltage probably depenging on pullup value so all will be good .

Hello Greg,
Yes it is a Hall Sensor.
So i will try to connect it directly and set it up with pull-up 4K7, without any additional voltage divider. Just dont want to shoot off my input.

Should i use Sensor Ground or better Engine/ECU Ground?

I’m sure will be fine lots of camshaft positions are have supply 12v and work without issue . also i believe all inputs 12v tolerant
