Vw di noisy pump

Good day . First time posting .

We run a pro 8 ecu on some circuit racing vw polos.

Have had some teething problems but mostly sorted and cars are competing nicely against most cars running motec . Our only issue now is that the di pump /hi pressure fuel rail has a high pitched noise on idle if you raise rpm it goes away. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

That’s awesome you got the engine working and car running well.

I think we never had such an issue, with high-pitched noise from fuel delivery system.

Main question is if the noise is coming from injectors or the pump.

Since changing RPM makes the sound disappear, there should be other variables that can achieve that. What I would do is play with different parameters on idle, and see if it has any effect on the noise.

What parameters to check:

  • lambda target to change the pulse width, without changing anything else,
  • injection angle to move the injector opening and closing around,
  • rail pressure target to change how pump is working,
  • pump solenoid parameters like dead time or hold angle.

If after all that you still can’t solve it, you might need to send us some data. You can post a project and log file here or send it directly to me at marek.kuklis@ecumaster.com

Thanks so much for your speedy response . I will definitely try that . Really appreciate the help.

Hello again. I tried all your suggestions and can confirm. Changing the dead time to a higher number makes the noise much worse. So I dropped it and it is quiet now . The same result if I drop the pressure. I have to drop it to 50 -60 though to get the same result. It sounds nearly like a ultra sonic bath if that helps to explain. I have forwarded my project and logs of 2 pulls on dyno to you via email. Again thank you for your time and help .

Oh and can anyone confirm the calibration of the high pressure (rail pressure) voltage calibration on the ecu master base file .

O.5 volts o kpa - 4.5 v 280 kpa please .

Though I would share the issue we had causing this issue. The noise was from to much pressure on idle and light load . The reason was a incorrect reading from the high pressure fuel sensor. Apparently the sensor on our engines are a special type that are Not analog. Quick fix fitted a 260 bar sensor from our local MoTeC agent and now all pressure and controls are perfect. Starts well, no noise on inj / rail . Hope it helps.

Ok, thank you for the information.
Those were probably SENT sensors.
You could use them by connecting them to the GDI driver.

This is a big problem with VW engines.
If the engine code is not identical, there will be differences.
And there are a whole lot of different engines.

The engine used here starts with CZP (there should be one more letter for a complete engine code).
Our base map is for the CJXH engine.

And as you can see, there are significant differences, even though it’s the same generation of an engine (EA888).

Yes we were very luckily helped by our local MoTeC agent who had this problem before and knew how to overcome the problem so we could race this weekend.
