I noticed that the thermostat isn’t working properly, even after I had loaded 2.1 base map.
The first problem was, the engine couldn’t reach operating temperature during cruising, then a dc motor blew in this thermostat - but it was 10 years old, and it might not have the coolant in it for long time during engine swap, so that could have been the reason.
We replaced it with VW OE one (the same part number), but I noticed the voltage from the position sensor isn’t changing - despite that I can hear the motor running if I force the power supply. The sensor voltage still remains at 3.7V. I checked it with an oscilloscope, and it seems the signal is digital.
Moreover, I disassembly another thermostat (this time a Meyle replacement), and I can’t see any position sensor here!
Should I replace this thermostat with a different part number one?
Hi,
It looks like you are using a different engine.
For the VW engine, all four letters are important. Our base map is for the CJXH engine. There are 8 different CJX engines. And they have differences, otherwise they wouldn’t have a different engine code.
Can you give us details about the engine you are using? Do you know the full code? Or the model and year of the car it came from.
Apparently, your engine has a different thermostat than ours. We have a thermostat that has an analog signal from the position sensor. Yours looks like a SENT sensor.
The U1 chip on the PCB looks like a position sensor. It’s probably a Hall effect sensor, and the geared wheel has a magnet.
You could probably make it work by connecting the sensor to the SENT inputs in the GDI Driver and passing that signal to EMU PRO to use as thermostat position.
I don’t know the part number for the thermostat on our car.
