I recently installed an EMU Black ECU on my Lotus Exige S2, but the car won’t start with the base map.
I locked the Ignition Angle setting with 0° crank angle value inside the “Primary Trigger” parameters window. The checking process using a timing light gave me the expected result, everything seems fine with the ignition.
However, I’m now wondering if the First Trigger Tooth and Trigger Angle settings are correct in my current config:
36-2 trigger wheel - OK
17 trigger tooth - ?
73° crank angle - ? (I’ve tried to understand the origin of this value without getting a proper explanation)
I don’t fully understand the concept of crank angle and how it’s used in the software. Is there a composition rule between the tooth & the angle?
Could someone explain it in simpler terms than what’s in the documentation, especially in relation to configuring these two parameters together?
Hi,
first trigger tooth is just the reference for the crank angle…means TDC is x° crankangle away from triggertooth. Basically the trigger tooth is a free joice and then u adjust crankangle that ur timing light gives the expected reading. So those values seem to be okay in ur case.
Is fuel injected during ur cranking?
I noticed that the “enable scope” option is activated in basemap…i think u don’t get injection with this active. Did u uncheck this?
OK. It’s much clearer that way, thank you so much for your reply
I can smell a slight petrol odour, so I assume there’s petrol injection (the injectors are correctly set according to those fitted to the car, and the pump is running). On the other hand, I wonder if the injection / ignition are on the right TDC. Perhaps I should try changing the Output Offset to shift 180°?
If u checked timing just on crankshaft u can try to invert the phase by putting a offset…yes…but i dont think this is needed with the basemap.
But question then…did u change something on the engine or is it still stock?
E.g. if u put in other injectors the injectiontimes from the basemap won’t fit to ur engine anymore.
complete exhaust line with sport cat, lightened connecting rods, forged pistons, reinforced AACs, upgraded intercooler…
for the moment, I’m running on my oem injectors (not the upgraded ones) and the engine should at least start up on this basis and hold its idle.
the base map was provided by komotec according to my current changes
I checked a lot of things (fuel pressure, timing & advance…) but I noticed a real problem with the compressions, which are all too low and of the same value on each cylinder.
I suspect that i made a mistake when reassembling the intake camshaft timing sprocket. Maybe the valves, which crossed too quickly and prevented the compression phase from going all the way ? I need to check
@slotus_turbo I guess you skipped a lotus 2ZZ with this emu black? you have a lot of modifications?
