DSG white vs black mechatronic

DSG question. I have a DQ250 with a black mechatronic. Switching to a white mechatronic stops communicating and not working. Stock OEM doesnt seem to bother either you have black or white mechatronic. Has anyone had encountered the problem ?

This is what I found via an online search:

“The existence of both black and white mechatronic controllers (TCUs) for the DQ250 6-speed DSG transmission is primarily due to hardware and software revisions made by Volkswagen/Audi (VAG) throughout the transmission’s production life. While both operate the same 6-speed wet-clutch gearbox, they are generally not interchangeable without specific, often complex, software adaptation.

Here is a breakdown of the differences:

  • Generation/Revision Differences: The white mechatronic units are generally considered newer, updated versions compared to the older black units, often featuring improved electronics, solenoids, or revised solenoid calibrations to address earlier reliability issues (like total loss of reverse or faulty TCM relays).

  • Hardware and Software Non-Compatibility: Switching between a black and white unit often results in a “no communication” or non-functional state because the underlying software and hardware identifiers do not match the vehicle’s original coding.

  • Part Number Suffixes: The specific version (white vs. black) is often tied to the last letters of the part number (e.g., 02E 325 025…). A single-letter difference in the part number can mean a different generation.

  • Adaptation Requirement: Installing a different generation mechatronic requires careful matching of the hardware and often requires software adaption to the specific vehicle, otherwise it will not operate correctly.

For repairs, it is highly recommended to match the part number exactly rather than just the color of the unit to ensure functionality.”

Im saying the white mechantronic doesnt work with Ecumaster, OEM ecu no problem.
