Getting oil temperature from PULS oil temp/level sensor

I have a PULS oil temp/level sensor configured and it seems to work for level; however it doesn’t seem to report the oil temperature anywhere. Can that be added? I don’t have provisions for one (no external oil lines, and the oil pressure sensor isn’t in flow) and I’d rather not drill the pan to add one.

Also FWIW the oil level sensor reports a %, but it doesn’t report the level in mm. At first I thought it was broken until I realized my sensor was reporting 20%, exactly the same as the failsafe value. Granted mm doesn’t mean much, and really I’ll go configure a table that maps % to quarts, but if you aren’t going to use mm then you may as well remove those parameters.

Which particular PULS oil sensor are you using?
I tried to request some compatible p\n before but no response so far. (Honda/acura hella ultrasonic sensors are flagged as incorrect protocol)
Oil temperature via PULS used to be in the dropdown but disappeared after DI software update (with SENT support) I believe

I think there are at least 3 sensors on BMW engines that work, along with at least 1 that won’t work.

  1. I briefly tested the BMW N20 (2014-ish 328/228/etc) oil level sensor, 12618608779, which has been superceded by 12617638341. At least one online store says that maps to Hella 013680131 which can be had for under US$50. It’s only about 88mm long.
  2. I’m currently using a sensor for BMW B48/B58/etc (2018-ish 330/340/etc) engines, 12618638755. The same online store says that maps to Hella 013680141 which can also be had for under US$50. It’s about 132-133mm long. This ended up being too long for my application but BMW also sells a spacer (used on certain M3/M4 GTS/CS/etc variants), BMW part 11137857266, also about US$50.
  3. I didn’t test but am sure the sensor from a BMW S55 (2015ish basemodel M3/M4) will also work (as some people upgrade from this sensor to the one above without recoding the car), it’s part num 12618608780. Online prices vary from $185 to $225, and I can’t seem to figure out what the Hella equivalent part # is. I’m assuming this sensor is 100-120mm long but I don’t actually know (it must be under 125mm or it wouldn’t fit).
  4. The sensor from a BMW N52 (2006ish 330) will NOT work, as it uses a protocol labelled “BSD” (Bit Serial Data, how very descriptive) which is a bus shared with the alternator.

Thank you
That detail is going to be very handy

I indeed need the short version for my oil pan (honda j35).
Will report back my experience with hella 6PR013680131 once it arrives

So I can confirm that the hella p/n is working fine with 220.1fw.
