Hey guys, got my hands on the classic about a week ago and have been setting it up, and have managed to get all the inputs/outputs functioning, including ignition. However, during cranking, I’m not getting anything through my timing light, cam-synced or otherwise. I’m thinking it’s my settings somewhere but I just need a second pair of eyes on it to see what’s wrong. Just let me know what kind of stuff you need and I’ll send it over!

This is for an 00 CE Lancer using a modified Evo4-8 PnP to suit 4g93, same wasted spark crank/cam trigger wheels etc. as the 4g63.
Alright I managed to solve this one on my own! So essentially I am using what I think is a ferrite-based timing light which has a little sliding box that goes around the spark plug lead to find the spark. During output testing I was using an cycle on time of 10ms, which is far longer than the 3.55ms coil dwell during actual cranking. So because I hadn’t optimally positioned my reading box on the coil lead, I wasn’t getting a stable reading when cranking but was getting away with it during output testing because I’m assuming the charge was much higher. But someone who knows more about spark plugs and coils can probably better explain this. Either way, make sure your output testing accurately reflects cranking conditions! That was my mistake.
