PMU use with crate Coyote Gen3 CAN Bus

Hello,

My first post and I’m new to all this. Apologies if this is common knowledge but I have a crate Coyote engine that runs off the Ford Performance Control Pack. I would like to get some info/data from this PCM (RPMs, Collant Temp, etc.) and have it feed the PMU which will be connected to an ADU7. Is it as simple as tap into the CAN bus from the PCM and the PMU and ADU7 will be able to read the info for the engine sensors? Or will I have to run wires for separate sensors for all the data I want?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

I would assume that the crate Coyote engine is probably exactly the same configuration as the one put in the Mustang.

This would be a 2018 Mustang, and I don’t think we have CAN bus data for that model.

The OEM ECU supports OBDII, so it should be possible to read that data with ADU. You can then forward that data to PMU. The con of that solution is that OBD has a slower update rate than native communication.

If you can get your hands on some kind of DBC file for Mustang GT from 2018 onwards, you could import that into PMU and ADU.

Thank you so much for the response. I’ll see what I can find for a DBC file. At least I am not working completely blind with this info now. Again thanks!!

Hi Seagull260, I’m on the exact same journey. Gen 3 control pack with ADU7 and PMU-16.

Have you been able to figure out anything useful? It looks like some of the parameters should work by default from the OBD 2 CAN bus (RPM, CLT temp, fuel pres, ambient temp, etc) but I’m also hoping to get oil pressure and anything else that might be available via CAN.

I sent a message to Ford Performance tech about message definitions and they said they will get back to me soon.
