ADU7 and usb to can problem . Please can you help!

Hi there . I can’t tell you how glad I am to be able to tap in to this forum. Hello !

I have been building a Caterham sigma twin vvc twin cam 1600. I have got an ECU master black . An mfd15 guage and I have just added to the car an ADU7 dash .

I bought a usb to can box and I cannot for the life of me get the red error light to go out and the laptop software to communicate with each other (ADU7 client 120….) just shows status of disconnected flashing on the title bar at bottom left corner. If some one could please help me I can give more detail about my can bus . How it’s wired , termination resistors etc . I have re wired it three times trying different stuff according to info I’ve found , but still no joy.

All I want to do is tell my ECU I have an adu7 so they communicate with each other.

I have a good all round knowledge of mechanical stuff, but not spent much time in this area until now. But I am wanting to learn .

Hi,

Red light on the USBtoCAN means there is a CAN bus error.

Possible reasons for the error:

  • Devices with different speeds connected together (every device on the bus must be working with the same CAN speed, otherwise the bus will be unusable),
  • Swapped high and low lines (common mistake with the DB9 connector is a mirror image of the correct connection, to double check, you can read the pin numbers molded on the front plastic insert),
  • Incorrect termination of the bus (there should be two 120 ohm resistors at the two furthest points of the bus).
