Back pressure sensor

I have a 1.8t EMU black PnP ECU and want to add an electronic wastegate to my new turbo setup.

TLDR: Do you have to have a back pressure or EMAP/EMP sensor to run an electronic wastegate?

More details: I’m going to use an external Hbridge/controller that says it will accept a PWM signal from any ecu and output it to the EWG. However it says it needs a 1kHz signal. In EMU black the frequency can only be set between 5 and 400, unless you set the solenoid output to “electronic wastegate”

Then under EWG parameters, you can choose from 1kHz-2kHz frequencies. but now i’m not sure if its going to be basing its duty cycle off the DC ref table like a normal mac valve would accept, or the EWG base DC table, which shows the Y axis as Back Pressure.
