DBW as Idle control - cant get it under control

EMU Black V2.175 plus FW

Hey everyone. I am running a K20a with a Honda J37 DBW setup, I want to use DBW to control ASE,Warmup and Idle before handoff for efficiency and smooth control. The DBW is fully functional (I have another map that uses fuel/igniton for idle that is rough but works).

Cranking is fine, it starts well, then the idle shoots right up to 2500rpm (and bounces off the soft limiter I have set) when it should be around 1400rpm when cold (depending on CLT), from the logs I can see two things:

  1. Idle control is not active
  2. DBW blade target is stuck at 7.5% which I think is the cause for the high rpm and probably related to (1). I’ve also noticed its stuck at 7.5% with the engine not cranking!!!

Disclaimer: I am not an engine tuner, the MAP has been done already so have not touched the VE map, cam nor ignition tables (apart for 1 degree extra bottom left for low rpm cold starts).

I’ve learnt and read loads before I started looking at this and I think I am very close, I just cant figure out the two issues I am seeing and I am STUCK.

For diags, I;ve captured a few different parameter log files and the map is here: EMUDBW

If it takes a professional to take a look then so be it, but I feel its just a simple config.

I’d be very grateful if someone could help? Thanks in advance. Kev

Minimum map for idle is at 100kpa , afterstart release rate is too low , idle range is set at 6% while max idle dc is also set at 6% , pid deadband rpm is also very low at 25 rpm, delay to activate also very low at 1ms

:slightly_smiling_face: Better?

PS Its High Compresson 12.5:1 with agressive cams.

No, not better. Just press the question mark and read the description, this will help you actually understanding what a parameter does before you enter random numbers✌🏾 97kpa is basically wide open throttle. Why should this be the minimum map for idle control to activate?

OK - I am at the limit of my knowledge, could someone recommend a tuner that knows the EMU black at a deep level who could help remotely, happy to pay for their time. I am in the UK

I’ve tweaked the map as discussed by baxtercraft (and saved it in the directory link in my original post), but things have not improved.

Issue turned out to be excessive ignition trim contributions, kpa being wrong and also the position min voltage needing to be 0.50v
