GUI Assistance, options for floating windows? more like black gui?

Hi All,

quick run down i have a Lexus IS300 with a turbo’d GE VVti running an Ecumaster Pro8. 722.6 transmission with trans controller; bunch of sensors and CAN switchboard.

We initially considered Link Thunder, and finally settled on purchasing a Ecumaster Pro 8. I was lucky enough to have a 2 tuner’s with extensive knowledge of: EMU black, classic line; LINK and NISTUNE’s. They both had not used the EMU Pro before and one was willing to give my car a go on the basis they would be learning along the way.

As you can imagine the GUI is quite alot different from the black and classic they are used to. Complete tunes that i have seen them have non functioning car to street driving and drifting in half a day. It appears to take HOURS to find settings hiding in menus; and continued frustrations while holding a laptop whilst in a car learning the new systems. As a paying customer (at $250 an hour on the dyno) I’m at loss what to do but post on here in the hope we can move forward with this new software. I have built 3 other cars with the emu black and im confident we will get there with the software; the CAN switchboard has been a godsend for all the relays in the car, cleaned up the wiring back from the firewall!

From the tuners complaints i have this from them: (i have now been back and forward with 3 different tuners)

*lack of floating windows
*event log (like link software)
*customizable graphs (like on a link ecu) used for quickly setting boost, rpm, coolant protections etc
*bring windows to the front (like on the black and classic)
*more windows like the ‘tune display’ where it can be shifted around the GUI without it being snapped to a locked window.

*help section is very lacking
*search function also doesn’t net great results

*setup options for multiple screens ? is that an option?

====================

again this is just the information im getting from the wiring tech, and the 3 tuners i have used.

is there any way to make the pro gui operate like the older software?

any advice would be greatly appreciated, just having access to certain data while a run is being completed would be great!

Thank you for your feedback. Let me address the concerns you’ve raised:

EMU PRO is a new platform, and we understand that moving to a more flexible system can increase the learning curve. It’s expected that tuning may take longer initially, as tuners familiarize themselves with the new interface. However, making the software approachable and user-friendly is one of our top priorities.

  • Lack of floating windows: We’ve opted for fixed panels to ensure consistency across all our software (ADU, PMU, Data Master). While we understand the value of floating windows, we believe this decision better aligns with our long-term usability goals.

  • Event log (like Link software): This is a good suggestion, and we’re considering adding a similar feature in future updates.

  • Customizable graphs (like Link ECU) for quick setup (boost, RPM, coolant protections, etc.): Could you provide more details or a screenshot of what you mean? We’d like to understand this better.

  • Help section is very lacking: We acknowledge the gaps in the documentation. We’re actively working on filling this in, and all new features are now documented as they’re added.

  • Search function doesn’t net great results: We have improvements planned for the search function. If you have more specific examples, they would help us refine it further.

  • Multiple screens setup option: Are you referring to support for dual monitors? If so, this is something we can explore.

Thank you again for your feedback and patience. We’re confident that EMU PRO will bring great benefits, and we’re here to support you through the transition. Your insights are really helpful as we work to improve the software.

We can acknowledge its a new platform, this is one of the reasons we pushed to use it as it will be supported in the future, however the Pro8 has been out for over 20 months we figured it would of have enough time to develop out of beta phase?

Lack of floating windows:
As you would be aware, during tuning you often just want to get 2 different graphs during a run on the dyno,
be it fuel and timing for instance? I cant see how different a floating window would be compared to previous software?, the f7 tuner for instance is floating? and can be placed anywhere on the screen. We have also found that you can add more columns and rows to the tuner, but not hot keys for graphs? - which again would be helpful?

Event log (like Link software):
awesome that is great to hear, during a run you might have a failure or a hot spot on one egt, and hear something? so its like what was that and why the protection kick in etc…?

Customizable graphs (like Link ECU) for quick setup (boost, RPM, coolant protections, etc.):
yes i can actually put a quick video together, to make sense of two of the tuners examples they often use.

Help section is very lacking:
for instance if i was to setup cruise control, there is no mention of cruise in the initial documentation, there isnt much of a tutorial for this etc, I am hoping that HP tuners one day runs a course on this specific gui/software

Multiple screens setup option:
yes correct, say we could have a laptop in the car, and a seperate screen next to the dyno for instance for the client to watch during the run or others to keep an eye on things during the run. the middle table doesnt have enough room for a fulls scrub of data for instance, that could be relocated to another screen?

thankyou again for your reponses michal.kowalski, this has been quite a frustration for my tuners and my bank balance, i have actually considered pulling all my sensors and wiring in a black while the software matures.
we have been trying to persevere with it, and lots of phone calls with our local ecumaster contact; he too has had alot of people call him with just silly “where it this located etc…”

Thank you for the detailed feedback and for sharing it here. We appreciate your honesty, and it’s definitely better to address these frustrations now rather than switching back to EMU Black. Once past the initial challenges, you’ll see how much more capability EMU PRO has to offer.

The early development of EMU PRO focused on adding essential strategies, which took priority over refining the user interface. We’re now shifting our focus to improving usability.

We’ll consider adding limited floating window options in the future, as we understand how crucial it is for tuning multiple parameters. This will also support better multi-screen setups.

Regarding the help section, we’re actively working to close gaps, such as cruise control setup and other advanced features. We’re also exploring the idea of creating tutorials to make onboarding easier for tuners unfamiliar with the new software. EMU Black and Classic have been around for years, which is why their knowledge base is more developed.

We look forward to seeing your video on customizable graphs.

Will send a pm with the videos mentioned for you to review
