Lotus Elise S3 Plug and Play Start Button Intermittent

EMU Black Plug and Play installed in a Lotus Elise S3 with 2ZR engine.

Start button works intermittently.

We have checked start button, relay pack, immobiliser and starter solenoid. All working correctly and consistently.

We have tested with several different firmware versions, ranging from 2.136 to 2.175.

Intermittently no output generated from ECU to AUX4 (Starter Output). No pattern to behavior. Approximately 50% failure rate with the following configuration as supplied by dealer:

If I uncheck “Stop Switch” and set “Start Switch Input” to either CAN SW4 or Virtual Output #2 then 100% success rate for Starter Output from ECU:

I think the original reason the dealer supplied configuration with Virtual Output configured was to include an AND config for Clutch Switch to be activated as well as Starter Button.

We don’t use the Clutch Switch for starting in this country.

Should I use CAN SW4 directly as Start Switch Input?

Do I still need a Stop Switch configuration or not?

@ecumaster , ive been looking at an ecumaster ecu, i have been watching a few posts to see what the support has been like, i have been disapointed that you havn’
t responded to this one at all!

Support should be provided by your dealer-installer
I have installed probably 50+ of those nits. It is important to know specific lotus quirks, such as pinout change from year to year, and controlling, for example, the starter motor, such as switching to ground and some to 12V. And so on, so on

Greg you are the supplying dealer, last time you remoted on you suggested upgrading firmware, which I have tried but didn’t change the behavior.

If you read my 1st post here you can see the outputs are good if I don’t use the virtual output and use the CAN SW 4 directly as input.

I’ve provided lots of information in the post and what we have tested, can you answer my original questions?

You need to add a condition for the stop switch. Normally, you can’t use the same button for start and stop without an additional condition.
The stop switch is customer-dependent on a normal car; there is no such functionality, you need to turn the engine off with the key.

It seems you are the dealer

Thanks Greg, that makes sense. The original factory Lotus setup is Start button to start and ignition switch off to stop.
