Crypted packages – User Guide
A crypted package is an encrypted file prepared by a tuner. It contains maps, parameters, user names, and the project comment. It allows a complete project to be uploaded to the ECU and protects the device with a password set by the tuner.
Loading a package replaces the existing project and ECU password. The engine must remain stopped throughout the entire process.
Creating a package. This feature is available for projects using firmware version 3.072 or later.
- Prepare the project and select File → Save crypted package.
- Enter and confirm the password. This password will protect the ECU after the project is uploaded. The Show password option lets you check the password you entered.
- Optionally, enter the ECU serial number and a description of the changes.
- Confirm and save the file.
EMU Classic uses the .emu3package extension, while EMU Black uses .emub3package. Packages for these devices are not interchangeable.
Serial number. This optional restriction ties the package to a specific ECU. If the tuner enters a serial number, the client will allow the package to be loaded only into the device with that serial number. If the numbers do not match, a message will appear and loading will stop before any ECU data is changed.
Leaving the field empty allows the package to be used with any ECU of the correct type. The serial number identifies the device; it does not replace the password or the firmware version check.
Loading into an ECU without a password.
- Stop the engine and connect the client to the ECU.
- Select File → Open crypted package and choose the file.
- If the package contains a description, read it and select Next. Cancel stops the operation.
- If a different firmware version is required, follow the firmware update prompt.
- Wait for the upload to finish and the ECU to restart.
After the restart, the device will be protected by the password stored in the package.
Loading into a password-protected ECU.
- Stop the engine and connect to the ECU.
- In the Device password window, select Load package.
- Choose the file, review its description, and confirm the firmware update if prompted.
- Wait for the operation to finish and the ECU to restart.
You do not need to know the ECU’s existing password. The client will check the package, erase the existing data, and upload the new project together with the new password. If you have already unlocked the ECU using its password, you can also use File → Open crypted package.
Firmware update. A package requires the exact firmware version for which the project was prepared. If the ECU has a different version, the client will display the current and required versions and ask you to confirm the update. The message also states that all ECU data will be lost and a new project will be loaded.
After you select Yes, the client automatically searches for the appropriate file in the Firmware directories. The minimum supported version is 3.072, corresponding to emuV3_3_072.bin. If the required file is missing, a message will appear and the process will stop. There is no manual firmware file selector.
After a successful update, the client checks the device again and continues loading the package. Selecting No cancels the operation without changing any ECU data.
Do not disconnect the ECU or turn off its power during the upload.
