I have been struggling to get a 2006 VW golf running with the 2.5 BGP engine. This previously ran on V2 and still runs on V2 when I convert back the firmware.
The converter works, but we have the Coils and Injectors hooked up to non standard output configuration. meaning Inj 1 isn’t necessarily wired to Injector 1 output. That shouldn’t really matter as we made sure the appropriate wiring was specified on both Injector and Coil phases, and set the appropriate Firing order (12453)
What is odd, is we can not get the Car to sync properly. I’m not sure if there is a supported Cam sensor configuration in the ECU at this point. I’m a novice but the imported secondary config from the converter sets the Secondary trigger as N-1, rising. With the Trigger angle and fist tooth from the imported file, the engine isn’t on an even sync at all. I’ve tried inverted phase as well.
The only way I could get an even 144 degrees between cylinders was to set the 1.8T secondary trigger…but that isn’t allowing a start either. I’m going to attach a file, log and scope.
Any input is appreciated.

I have more scopes and logs from different configuration changes….but I feel without better knowledge they are just stabs in the dark trying to get it to kick over at all.
As an update, to move this along hopefully.
we have this engine running (BGP) on V2 in a MK5 1k1 golf platform, and also on V2 on a Mk6 5k1 platform (CBTA engine code).
The secondary trigger in V2 is set to the “VW R32 4 teeth” trigger in both instances
My own 3.2 VR6 BUB engine had this on V2 as well, and the new V3 secondary trigger is set to N+1 rising. This is also the config in the ECUMasters V3 provided base map for this engine.
physically the triggers are pretty close in shape, the 2.5 rides on the edge of the trigger, which is on the cam. I believe the VR6 hall sensor is pointed at the face on the end of the variator.
I can provide more details when/if necessary.
Any input @Jadzwin_ECUMASTER? I don’t believe this engine was ever offered anywhere but the america’s, But in true VW fashion, they don’t change much in the way of triggers and config.
Thanks for the views.
Based on the scope secondary trigger N-1 is the best match.
Ok, Is there something we can try to get it to fire? I’ll admit I’m not fully experienced in the understanding the engine cycle and what I’m looking for in the scope on different attempts. We’ve tried inverted and also modified the firing order to minmic the V2 settings of “2” offset.
I’m open to any feedback.
Thanks in advance.
You need the timing lamp. Set the proper firing order. If the engine will have spark at the proper time but will not start, set Invert phase in firing order settings.
We’ve set the timing with a timing light, inverted phase, confirmed coil/injector assignments.
tried manually matching firing order offset from V2 by changing the firing order.
Engine doesn’t even try to catch. Perhaps its something we are missing but as soon as we put it on V2 is fires.
we’ll keep trying.
There should be no problem to start this engine. Please set up the proper firing order and make sure the spark is at TDC of 1st cylinder during cranking (set ign. lock to 0).
Then make a scope for from cranking with injection and ignition events.
We will see what is on the scope
I’ll get it back on V3, confirm TDC and firing order again and send another scope with injection and ignition events. Thanks.
I converted file from running V2 today. ensured CANbus, brake and clutch pedals were configured. attached are the scope, log, and file from my attempt. I don’t hear the car even attempting to start. Just cranking, and fuel smell.

One thing we noted on the V2 file…this care requires an obscene amount of VE at idle…So not sure what is going on there. But that is why the VE table is high on the fresh import. Fuel pressure, Injector Data, Injection angle, Map sensor config and coil dwell data have all been verified.
Thanks for any advice
