Just after abit of advice, im struggle to get my focus rs to start all i get is either a backfire or spit back. Ive tested injectors and coils individually all working.
Ive managed to find a mk1 focus rs base map but this is for the coil on plug.
Do i need to change tigger angle settings to allow these to fire properly/at the right time.
not sure how you have it pinned out, but 4 cylinder firing order is typically 1-3-4-2
I believe the Zetec USDM cars are 2 ignition outputs and waste spark coil packs, unsure what your car has if not that. Settings do appear to be COP settings. Again depending on how its wired IGN output 1 → Coil trigger 1, 2->2 and your trigger settings would be 1,2,1,2
I also strongly suggest changing the trigger edge to falling instead of rising.
And yes you’ll need a timing light to setup the trigger angle. The ECU needs to be understand where TDC is mechanically. You need to synchronize what the ECU thinks is TDC and where it actually is.
USDM Zetec’s do not have timing marks on the crank pulley, you’ll need to mark it and make a pointer.
Then remove cyl 1 spark plug, take a long screw driver and put into the spark plug hole.
Rotate crankshaft by hand until you its at its high point* (piston ‘dwells’ near TDC so mark where it stops rising and where it starts falling and split the difference) mark it on the balancer.
Make a pointer out of filler rod or a clothes hanger and point it to the TDC mark when the piston is at TDC
Put cylinder #1 spark plug back in, clip timing light to #1 spark plug wire and crank the engine over with the fuel pump disabled.
Lock the ignition timing to 0 degrees in the software, adjust the first trigger tooth and trigger angle until the timing light is flashing when the mark on the balancer and pointer are aligned.
Keep at least 40* in the trigger angle, add a tooth if it gets lower then that.
Also note that if its waste spark it will spark twice per engine cycle, if you get it synchronized but not running try flipping your ignition outputs.
Appreciate the help i have realised my mistake with the ignition events. I seem to have a failed cam sensor now as i get nothing on the scope.
New sensor will be here tomorrow.
