Abarth 500 - DBW calibration

Hi, :slightly_smiling_face:
I’m running 3,035 firmware version and I have “the throttle doesn’t return to limp home position” message during calibration.

First :

  • car is running fine with V2 (I tried V2 retrofit and it’s ok) → wiring ok
  • when I press the pedal (0-100%) PPS voltage is 0,75-4.4V → PPS configuration looks good
  • when I press the pedal (0-100%) TPS voltage is allways 0.75V and physically the throttle doesn’t move → the pedal and the throttle seems to be not “connected” together
  • when I override DC (0-100%) the TPS voltage 0,75-4,7V → DBW configuration looks good
  • I tried without check signal input for TPS and PPS but no effect.

I think I’m missing big thing but what … ?

The car is an EU5 Abarth 500 with 0280750073 Alfa Romeo throttle.

Please someone got some ideas ?

Thanks a lot !

Sorry to post this again. But maybe this guide can help? Read messages before and after as well please.

Hi,
Yes your post helps me a lot before my post (thanks a lot !) but didn’t solve my problem, so I’m here today
At first, the throttle don’t move if I press pedal in V3, ain seems frozen. In V2, the throttle move and ain are alive. I don’t beleve in wiring issue (I tried back in V2 for test and it’s ok). If I forced the DC, the throttle move and ain too.

I think this problem make my throttle calibration fail with error message.

Please make a throttle calibration until it fails. Then send a screen from calibration, log and your base map

Hi Jadzwin,

This is my DBW calibration window :

I can now control my throttle with my pedal : I needed to “calibrate” Spring DC référence.
But it don’t change the DBW calibration.

In V2, the Spring DC référence can be set to 100% (that I needed), in V3 it’s only max 50%. Am I on the right way ?

that’s throttle itself problem i think i had this laterally week ago when throttle was installed on custom made flange and wasn’t flat, was twisting throttle body - it is hard to believe it . once throttle unbolted form manifold was calibrating perfectly fine so try to remove throttle form intake and try to calibrate it again check if is working

what frimware do you use ?

I use the 3.035 version

Interresting ! I’ll try it

Same with throttle off to the plenum.

  • I tried with oem throttle ( 0280750137) and V3 firmware → calibration ok
  • I put back the alfa Romeo throttle and V3 firmware–> calibration fail
  • I retrofit to V2 version and with alfa Romeo throttle → calibration ok

So it may be an incompatibility between the alfa throttle 0280750073 and V3 firmware ?

could you please send a log when you calibrate thr alfa dbw ? and the screen from wizard and your configuration?
Ibqould like to analyze data and ecentually fix the autocalibration tool.

If you close the throttle with your finger (unpowered), how fast it opent to limp position ? How strong is the spring that opens the throttle to limp position ?

It look like it doesn’t want to return to Limp home position with the DC 0% (no power to the throttle). If it returns slowly that could be the reason the autotune fails.

Hi Jadzwin,

Here my engine calibration file, a failed DBW calibration and the screen from this failed calibration

DBW calibration fail.csv (172.4 KB)

20240915_1623_01.emub3 (60.9 KB)

hard to say but quit similar to OEM throttle, I try this test with my finger on a Citroen C2 VTS that I got for comparaison and it’s quit similar to the alfa one too. The spring looks good

do you have a log in emub3log formay ?
csv is not usable for me.

I just want to make sure my idea how to improve autocalibration will solve your issue.

hi,

Sorry for the CSV file, please found emub3logb file from a new DBW calibration :
DBW_calibration_fail.emublog3 (39.6 KB)

Thank you. I need to analyze it, as the log looks very weird to me.

Tommorow there will be new version 3.036. I think the calibration issue of your throttle is solved

Please check if it will work with software 3.036

It works  thanks a lot !!!
